Welcome to the July 2011 REEDS NEWS
Taking part in an Initiative benefitting Rural People
During the month we have been assigned a Base Line Survey of Horticulture Activities in one of the Districts of Andhra Pradesh by the Department of Horticulture, Government of Andhra Pradesh towards creation of a credible data base of all the Horticulture stake holders. This exercise, once completed, will enable the Department to support every horticulture beneficiary in a more productive and professional manner.
We feel happy for able to take part in an initiative that directly benefit rural people whose primary and often only source of income is either Agriculture or Horticulture. |

On Skills Development front
Our Advisory Council member Prof. Sadanada was here in India in July. Prof. Sada is deeply committed to Skill Development cause and is responsible for ACPET's commitment to India's Skill Development Initiatives.
Along with him, we have had some encouraging deliberations with NSDC and other agencies. These were focused towards establishing an institutional mechanism for imparting short term training courses (and have positive impacts on rural economic growth and poverty reduction in scale) under various government policies/frame works and in association with Academic and Industry partners. We are happy with the progress.
I feel privileged for having been asked to be Special Interest Advocate[SIA] for the theme Rural and Regional Development at ACPET's impending 2nd Asia-Pacific International Education Forum (APIEF) in Brisbane in 24-26 August, 2011. As an SIA, I would act as a special interest liaison for delegates at the Forum and facilitate partnerships between delegates focused on the development issue. I am sure that this role would further the efforts in strengthening cooperative relationship ACPET and REEDS.

Incidentally, I was present at last year's inaugural Forum held at Melbourne last August. I feel proud for being one of the 32 international delegates from 10 nations signed a Communiqu to formalize an agreed regional cooperation in the area of Vocational Education.
In this regard, may I suggest you to have a look at www.conference.acpet.edu.au and if you find APIEF interesting and useful, I can get you invited by ACPET to the Forum. |
Innovation to transform rural lives
It is a matter of coincidence that when I have been talking on innovative solutions towards improving the quality of rural lives and inclusion, I met a friend, Amit Jain, after a gap of 3 years, this month. Amit is operating E-Health Points [EHP] that provide with clean drinking water, medicines, comprehensive diagnostic tools, and tele-medical services at rural locations. The EHP concept is very impressive and has the potential to transform rural healthcare and quality of life. Congrats to Amit and his organization for able to come up with such an innovative social entrepreneurial idea and I wish them all the best in their endeavor.
I do hope you enjoy reading the REEDS News and thank you for your continued support.
Warm regards
Ravi K Reddy,
